Maricel began her career in the Boston Public Schools as Deputy Director of the Office of Equity and went on to serve as Assistant Headmaster at English High School, the Social Justice Academy and Boston Green Academy. She served as Metropolitan Educational Opportunities Council (METCO) Director for Newton Public Schools for five years and has served as a board member for the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition, Inc., METCO Directors’ Association, and METCO, Inc.

Maricel lives in Haverhill, Mass. with her dogs and is the mother of two adult children.
